Zegatos Steak & Pasta Cafe

The 75 year old Ashgrove Golf Club has taken on a new lease of life with the arrival of new chefs whose aim is to transform the club bistro into a vibrant and welcoming meeting place for the whole community.

Those who know AGC already appreciate the stunning outlook from the dining room and the deck which takes in the view of the tree-lined creek meandering through the golf course with its grassy expanses and profusion of wildlife. Add to this the experience and enthusiasm of chefs Tony Davis and Shane Johnson and you have the perfect atmosphere for either an intimate dining experience or a gathering with friends.

Tony trained as a chef with the Park Royal chain of hotels in New Zealand before arriving in Australia to open Il Centro in the City and later Brett’s Wharf Seafood Restaurant at Hamilton. He went on to work as executive chef at Fix at the Port Office for 6 years and presented wonderful food at Cafe San Marco at South Bank before it was destroyed by the floods of 2011. He is a highly awarded chef who was voted Queensland Chef of the Year in 2000.

Shane comes from a long line of hoteliers, and has wide experience with a period as chef de cuisine in restaurants in France for 3 years in the 90s. On his return to Australia he has worked in many 5 star restaurants in the City, at Parliament House and recently for Chefs on the Run.

Both Tony and Shane live at The Gap and are dedicated to developing, at Ashgrove Golf Club, an eatery that treasures excellence in the presentation of consistently good food and courteous and friendly service.

As Tony and Shane have worked to set up the cafe and to research the needs of The Gap community, they have found that the overwhelming support and positive feedback thus far have been tremendous. The confidence of their patrons has been borne out by assurance of return visits and the increasingly larger numbers booking for functions and formal dinners or just popping in for morning coffee (with cakes cooked on the premises), light lunches and relaxed Sunday breakfasts. Zegatos Steak and Pasta Café is well worth a visit.
